COVID Information for 2021 Maine Visitors

As we enter into 2021, and plans are being made for vacations to the Bar Harbor/Acadia area, there are many questions.

The Governor of Maine, as of 3/4/2021 has allowed Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermot residents to visit the State with no restrictions whatsoever. Any visitor from other states may come unrestricted if they are fully vaccinated or have recovered from having the Covid-19 virus. Anyone else coming to the State needs to have a Covid test taken the week prior to coming or get a same day test here in our area when arriving (Walgreens in Ellsworh ME has same-day, drive-up testing) OR quarantine for up to 10 days (ask us what this means). Restaurant capacities are expanding as of 3/26/21, and bars will be re-opening 3/26.

On May 1, 2021, Maine will shift to a model of "all states" exempted from testing or quaranting, with exceptions noted (in other words, some State's residents may still be required to be tested or quarantine, but all others won't).

It is the responsibility of renters to decide how to proceed. You may want to wait a while before booking. Or you may want to book now and purchase trip insurance (many companies offer a "cancel for any reason", should a member of your party contract COVID during your rental period).

None of us has a crystal ball, but we are all optimisitic that things will be improved by spring. Everyone is anxious to have a vacation to look forward to, and we want to assist you with your plans. Mount Desert Island/Acadia National Park will be, like last year, a safe place to enjoy the outdoors. Right now the restrictions are that you quarantine while here (up to 10 days) or get a COVID test a few days before coming (or get a test when you get to Maine).

All cottage owners will continue adhering to Maine CDC guidelines for the weekly changeover cleanings.

And it will likely be still be a requirement to bring your masks and practice social distancing when you come (our Governor may still mandate it).

We are booking cottages! Things are moving forward—those who want to come can come!

Travel Insurance
The rental agreements for these cottages do not provide for cancellation, unless the cottage can be re-booked for your time period (the season here is very short and owners have a narrow window to secure rentals). It is highly recommended that you consider purchasing trip/travel insurance should a personal emergency prevent you from taking your vacation. Here are a few companies that offer this type of low-cost insurance:
