Sans Souci Camp
If you’re looking for a lakeside setting, Sans Souci Camp is the perfect choice. Set on the tip of a peninsula with 3 sides of the property surrounded by Echo Lake, the camp is 100 + feet from the parking area, nestled in a forest of moss and pine. The trees along the shore offer privacy, framing great views as you walk down the path to the lake. Swim, kayak and fish right off the shore! Sans Souci Camp offers a wonderful lakefront vacation for a couple or small family.
Designed by a sailing buff, the 650 sq ft interior is streamlined with built in cubby holes, mid- century modern furniture and plenty of closets. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two built-in twins, and one bathroom with a shower. The cozy living room features a wonderful granite fireplace. The dining area overlooks the spacious sunny deck and shore pathway. An easy care galley kitchen has all you need for vacation cooking with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and ceramic water dispenser. (NOTE: the owner provides 5 gallons of bottled water per week, as the water is not drinkable. It’s fine for bathing and cooking.)
Amenities include all linens, DVD playter for flat screen TV (no satellite or cable, or local reception), radio, deck furniture, gas BBQ grill, and WIFI.
Centrally located on Mount Desert Island, this rustic camp is minutes away from many of Acadia National Park’s popular sites including Somes Sound, Echo Lake Beach, Long Pond, spectacular hiking trails on Beech, Acadia, and St. Sauveur Mountains and biking on the carriage roads. The ocean and the Acadia Park Loop Road is about 13 minutes away, as is Eagle Lake. Be sure to get your Maine fishing license online before you come!
Leave your car at the camp! The free Island Explorer bus stops nearby from Mid June to Mid October, taking you (and your bicycles!) to destinations around the island. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park offer a multitude of activities, including hiking, biking, sailing, kayaking, whalewatch tours, lighthouse tours, museums, gardens tours, movie theatres, shopping and, of course, fine dining and lobsters galore!
